The New Zealand Building Code (NZBC) is a performance-based regulatory framework that sets the minimum standards buildings must meet in New Zealand. It is part of the Building Act 2004 and is administered by MBIE (Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment).

Purpose:
To ensure buildings are safe, healthy, durable, and energy-efficient, while also accommodating New Zealandβs specific environmental and seismic conditions.
π Key NZBC Features for Windows & Doors
1. H1 β Energy Efficiency
Focuses on thermal performance of building envelope components, including windows and doors.
Sets minimum R-values for windows and glazing, depending on the climate zone.
Promotes the use of double or triple glazing and thermal break aluminum frames in colder regions (like Zone 3 β South Island).
2. E2 β External Moisture
Requires buildings to be constructed to prevent water ingress.
Windows and doors must be installed with flashing and sealing systems to ensure watertightness.
3. B1 & B2 β Structure & Durability
Windows and doors must withstand structural loads (including wind pressure).
Products must last at least 15 years (for elements with moderate consequences of failure).
4. F2 β Hazardous Building Materials
Glass used in windows and doors must be safe (e.g., safety glass in impact zones).
